What should I check if my TV Ears is not working properly? Charging the Headset for the first time… Before using the Headset for the first time be sure the volume control is “clicked off”. Then place the Headset gently in the Transmitter / Charger for a minimum of 8 hours. (first time only) The charging light will light up indicating the Headset is charging. Once charged the battery will last up to 10 hours on a fresh charge. We recommend at anytime you are not using your headset it should be turned off and placed on the transmitter/charger. The Headset can stay in the charger for long periods of time so do not be concerned with over charging the Headset. The five LED’s on the front of the Transmitter / Charger will have a slight red light illuminating from each one, sometimes only noticeable at night or by cupping your hands around them and looking closely. This is normal and is also an indicator that you have “power” to the Transmitter / Charger. ALWAYS leave your Transmitter / Charger plugged into the wall outlet using your AC adapter. NOTE: Always turn the Headset Volume Control OFF before charging, (click off). When the battery runs low you will notice the reception will become poor. Turn Off the headset and place it in the Headset Transmitter / Charger for at least 1 hour to obtain a fresh charge. My TV has 3 plugs (ports) on the front of the TV. Can I use them? DO NOT USE front plugs (ports). They are always Audio Input ports. To properly use TV Ears you must use the Audio OUT ports located on the BACK of the TV. Audio OUT are usually on the back or on the side on newer TV’s ( plasma, LCD TV’s ). My TV only has 3 plugs (ports) on the back of my TV? Usually if you only have 3 plugs (ports) on the back of your TV, they are also Audio Input ports. This will not work. TV’s that do have OUT ports are usually clearly labeled OUT and the TV will have 5 or more ports on the back of the TV. Plug into only Audio OUT ports on the BACK of your TV. Some TV’s only have 1 Audio OUT port on the BACK of the TV, just plug the red end of the 72” Audio Cord into the OUT port and leave the black end unplugged. What is the difference between Variable Output (VAR) and Fixed Output? FIXED OUTPUT (This is the one to choose)If your TV has Fixed Output you can mute the TV or lower the volume on the TV and there will be no effect on the TV Ears. Fixed output will allow for the best possible results when using TV Ears. VARIABLE OUTPUT (VAR)If your TV has Variable Output you will notice when you mute the TV or change the volume on the TV your TV Ears Headset will mute with the TV or the Headset volume will fluctuate when adjusting the TV volume using the TV’s remote control. NOTE: you may notice a slight hum or buzzing sound when the TV volume is set to a normal or low volume level. If this happens with your TV, remove the 72” Audio Cord and use the Multi-Use Power Microphone. Can I adjust the Left Ear or Right Ear Balance Control? Yes, the balance control is located on the back of the Headset. Use the tiny black screw driver, referred to as the balance tool, that came with your TV Ears to adjust the balance control. You can also use a small standard household mini screw driver to adjust the balance control. The balance tool can only be used on the Original , Professional , and Home Theatre models. Can I wash the Ear Tips or replace them? Only the rubber ear tips may be washed using warm water and dish soap or rubbing alcohol. We recommend replacing the disposable foam TV Ears Tips every 30 – 60 days for hygiene purposes. TV Ears Tips can be purchased through your local dealer or by calling 1-888-TV3-EARS. The Ear Tips feel tight or too big for my Ears? As you may have noticed the Bow Arms on the Headset are flexible and can be made wider to reduce “pressure” on your ears. Gently spread the upper section of the bow arms using your left and right hand and “spread” the bow arms outward a few times until you notice the Headset is “wider”. You may also use a book placed between the ear pieces to spread the headset for a longer period of time. You may have to repeat this step a few times a week for the first 30 days. Always handle your TV Ears Headset with care… When do I change the batteries in the headset and how do I change them? The rechargeable batteries in the Headset will need to be replaced every 1 to 2 years. You will begin to notice the batteries will not hold a charge or last more than a few hours during usage. To change the batteries remove the two screws located on the back of the Headset and remove the front plate of the TV Ears Headset. The new batteries will come already installed in a new front plate, which you can then re-attach to the back of the Headset. Batteries can be purchased from your local TV Ears dealer or by calling TV Ears directly at 1-888-TV3-EARS. I am experiencing some static. In most cases static is “environmental”. Check the immediate area for fluorescent lighting (fluorescent lighting will cause static in the TV EARS? system) and reduce direct sunlight in the room. The Headset may need to be charged. Is the room more than 900 square feet? Be sure the Transmitter / Charger is not facing a large window. In some rooms with tall ceilings, the Headset will be more effective with a clear line of sight to the Transmitter / Charger. NOTE: Infrared “bounces” off walls so be sure to position your Transmitter / Charger in the most effective position within the listening area to obtain the “bouncing” effect. Wear the Headset with the writing on the front of the Headset facing the Transmitter / Charger. This does not apply to the 2.3 system…. I’m not receiving any sound.Check to be sure the Audio Cord is plugged into the Audio OUT port on the back of your TV. If your TV does not have Audio OUT ports you’ll need to use the Multi-Use Power Microphone adapter – be certain the TV volume is high enough to be picked up by the Multi-Use Power Microphone. The sound reception is poor. There are a few things that can interfere with the performance of your TV Ears. Fluorescent lighting, direct sunlight, and “glass” rooms can interrupt infrared transmissions (infrared passes through glass, whereas it reflects off solid walls). Additionally, maintain a reasonable distance from the Transmitter / Charger, as reception may degrade with added distance. Placing the transmitter to low on the ground will also cause poor reception.
